What is a Chiropractor?

The World Federation of Chiropractic defines a chiropractor as a health professional concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation. Other important components of chiropractic care include patient education, post injury rehabilitation, and lifestyle advice.

Chiropractic care has a strong safety record and is widely accepted as a drug-free, surgery-free form of health care. However, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects—even common non-prescription pain relievers carry a risk. Fortunately, adverse effects associated with chiropractic adjustments are usually minor and short-term.
